Silent Hill: Recognition

Andi stared in horror at the dog-beasts who towered over him, their jaws dripping bloody foam. One of them reared like a horse, slashing at the air with scaly talons. Amon was cut and knocked to the ground, but when the beast lunged he swung his shovel at its head, stunning it. Lynn came in with his crowbar and , finding the beast's skull too thick to pierce, drove his weapon through its eye and into its brain. "One down" he said calmly.
Andi watched from where he'd pressed himself against a derelict building, his brain screaming at him to fight but his buried terror rooting him to the spot. It seemed to him that he heard a voice on the wind; a man shouting from very far away "Rip 'im apart!" For the first time in years he felt helpless. He couldn't move.

"Look out!" Kaito cried as the other hound lunged for Andi. But just as the beast was about to land, someone pulled Andi out of harm's way. Haruto looked at the person and couldn't believe it! The Past saved Andi?! The Past looked more confused then Haruto did and vanished. Haruto shot at the hounds legs to knock it down and Kaito shot at it's eyes, following Lynn's example.

The Past hid in an empty house and went to a bathroom to bandage some of the wounds that had not healed. He went to the sink and splashed some cold water on his face. He looked in the mirror and hissed to himself "You moron. They were called here for a reason" He sighed and answered himself in a sad tone "I know... I know... I just couldn't stand seeing him frozen like that" Suddenly, he punched the mirror and barked "You're weak! Our place is in The Order. To guide the wicked to their death, that is our duty" He gingerly cradled his now injured hand and sighed. He looked out a nearby window and said "yes... our place is with The Order... but..." The Past left the house and whispered "I sometimes wonder if that is really why we were made here..."

Andi slowly got to his feet, repeatedly clenching and loosening his fists. He couldn't get his hands to stop shaking. He stared at the ground, unwilling to meet the others' eyes. "Let's get moving. We want to get to that building before we run into anything else." Amon reached out to comfort him, but Andi brushed his hand away and silently led the group to the library.

When they reached the library Haruto went straight to the history section, keeping an eye out for any monsters as he searched. Kaito stayed by the door, keeping guard for anything that may seem like an attack.

Andi wandered the library, checking out anywhere that a monster could hide. He left Amon by the door with a stack of picture books to flip through, since he still wanted to be left alone. Lynn checked the back rooms until he found the one where they kept back copies of newspapers, since that seemed the best place to find local history. Fortunately the papers had been scanned onto a computer, so he was able to search for keywords. He stuck his head back into the main room. "Their old newspapers are all in the database. What exactly are we searching for?"

Haruto answered Lynn "Try searching for any strange events. Anything you think could possibly be connected to what's happening here now"

Lynn tried thinking like an investigator - and had no idea what the most logical explanation would be. So he tried thinking like a horror novelist. If he wanted to set up a monster-filled town of horrors, the cliche reasons would be an ancient curse, an evil cult, or a portal to hell. The cult seemed most likely to turn up in a newspaper, so he started there. He soon found something interesting. He stuck his head out the door again. "This could be it. A religious group called the Order. Seemingly innocent enough, until one former member started making accusations of dark magic and human sacrifice. He was evaluated, deemed insane, locked away; and died days later. They called it suicide. I'm not so sure."

Haruto went to Lynn's side to see the article and said "well, what a charming little town they got here, Where can we get more info on This 'Order' group?"

Lynn tried searching the database for any mention of the Order. "Mostly innocent mentions of the group. Here's something. A reaction to the ex-member's accusations. A handful of members mentioned by name. If we find a phone book we can get their addresses and check out their homes. If this were one of my stories that's where the real clues would be."

Haruto looked for a payphone, vaguely remembering one in the library back home, and hoped to find a phone book. When he found the book at the very back of the building he picked it up and brought it back to Lynn. He opened it up and said "okay, give me the first name"

Lynn scanned through the article. "They have two Leones, Callisto and Bree, and a Salem Karis. The Leone sisters are stated to be key members, so either of their homes could have the information we need." Andi wandered in to peer uncomprehendingly over their shoulders. "We have a lead?"

"maybe, if we can get some addresses" Haruto replied. He flipped through the book and said "right, one Leone sister, Bree, lived on Koontz Street, no go on the other sister, Callisto, and Salem Karis was on Crichton Street" He folded the corners of the pages and closed the book while asking "So, Koontz Street first?"

((Callisto and Bree are the sisters... Loving the street names though))
Andi nodded and called out to the others in the main room. "We've got a location." There were local reference materials behind the librarian's desk; he grabbed a street map and tossed it to Haruto, since he had the addresses. "Find us a route."

Haruto studied the map for a moment before saying "okay, if we head down Simmons Street we should get to... oh! It's a straight shot from here" Kaito decided to join in the conversation "well, shall we go?"

Andi eased the front door open and looked around. A couple of Dolls turned a far corner out of sight; otherwise the street seemed deserted. He motioned for the others to follow and started down the street. Amon followed close behind, gripping his shovel with both hands. Lynn waited to bring up the rear, holding his crowbar ready but with his gun in his belt where he could easily get to it.
An icy wind carried a child's giggle to their ears.

The twins left behind Amon. Kaito shivered when he heard the child's laughter in the air. As they passed an alley Kaito looked to see two... things... and they were doing something to what looked like a corpse.

Seeing Kaito's reaction, Lynn looked into the alley as well. The two creatures were peeling off strips of flesh to stick to their bodies. One used a scythe-like arm to sever the head. The creatures were fighting over the head when they both suddenly stopped, somehow aware of the group despite having no eyes or ears. Flailing their blades, they ran toward the group.
Lynn drew his gun and fired a shot, which bounced off one of the creatures' shells. A second later it was on him; he dodged the blades but was thrown aside by one of its human arms. Andi raced over with his own blades, hacking at the creature but unable to penetrate the shell. "Oh. Shit."

Haruto backed away and took a few shots at different parts of the things body until a shot penetrated the hard shell, he then aimed for that spot. Kaito had to be a bit more strategical with his shots where he only had a double-barrel. He aimed for areas he thought might hold a vital organ, unfortunately he wasn't so luck and only managed to get the things attention.

Amon raised his shovel and stood over Lynn, who had struck his head when he was thrown and was now stunned. Andi went after the monster that was after... Shotgun Twin, since he couldn't remember which was which. ((LOL)) He spotted a gap where one segment of shell overlapped another, and drove a blade deep into the gap. The thing spasmed wildly, slicing a deep gash in his shoulder, but it was dead.

Kaito let the out a shaky, but relieved, sigh. He turned to Haruto and asked "how long now?" Haruto Checked the map and said "about 15 blocks away and then we should come to a set of lights"

Lynn stood, shaking the metaphorical cobwebs out of his head, ignoring the pain that came with it. He kicked one of the dead monsters. "Unique concept. I may use them for a book." Amon went straight to Andi. He stared at the blood on his shoulder and started to tremble. Andi wrapped his uninjured arm around Amon. "It's ok. I'm ok. I just need to find something to bandage this up." Amon made a stitching motion. "Ok, if it'll make you feel better I'll stitch it too. For now, let's just keep moving." He put away one dagger, keeping the other in his uninjured hand.

Haruto put the map away and said "there's a hospital not far from here, lets stop by and get you patched up"

Andi nodded. "Fine. This will get in the way of fighting until it's fixed." Amon pointed to his nose, then held his hands up like paws and stuck out his tongue. "Shit, he's right. Blood probably draws those dogs, and who knows what else. Let's get there quickly."

Haruto lead them to the hospital and carefully opened the front doors. He held the door open for the others once he saw the coast was clear.

Andi glanced around. There were signs, but they were no good to him. "I've never been in one of these places. Where would they keep suture and bandages?"
