Descendants of Madness

Alexei shrugged and rolled his eyes, frustration souring his mood. "Fine, whatever." He joined their escort in the hall.

Chronos waited for them in front of the training hall. He looked the duo over and said
"Keep me with you to survive
In the fields of death few keep alive
I am like a taller knife
deadly enough to end a life
What am I?"

Kosuke thought and answered "um... a sword?" Chronos patted her head and said "Ding! Ding! Next question - A nightmare for some. For others, as a savior I come. My hands, cold and bleak, it's the warm hearts they seek. What am I?"

Alexei shrugged. "Death?"

Chronos threw his hands in the air, the doors behind him flung open, and he cackled "Yes! The one man no one can escape! DEATH!" He back-flipped into the training hall and grabbed a sword. He motioned for Kosuke and Alexei to come forward.

Alexei rolled his eyes and followed. "This might be easier for us if everyone we had to work with wasn't insane."

Kosuke reluctantly followed and replied "I don't like it here... no one gives us any answers" Chronos walked up to Kosuke and said "perhaps it is you who isn't giving us the right questions. Ask what is so special about them and they expect lowly us to know? Tsk tsk we aren't a fortune teller"
"S-so who are you?"
"We are Chronos"
"Chronos?"
"Yes?"
"What?"
"'What' what?"
"You're confusing me"
"It was they who said our name"
"Who are you talking to?"
"Them"
"AAAARG!"
Chronos stared at Kosuke for a moment before replying "Our brother must not have taught them it is rude to scream at others" Kosuke gave him a confused look and said "I don't know anyone from here!" It was Chronos' turn to be confused as he asked "They don't know their father" Chronos turned to Alexei and asked "do they know their father?"

Alexei scoffed. "Of course I know my father, and I know he had nothing to do with this place. If he ever came here he'd probably try to court-martial you all for being too free."

Chronos laughed and replied "yes, The Mad Hatter was very strict before he left"

Alexei stared at Chronos in bewilderment. "Can't you ever make sense? What hatter? We were talking about my dad!"

Janus draped herself on Alexei's shoulders and said "now now dear Chronos, you have confused the poor boy. I think it is time you left for tea" Chronos bounced out the door, singing "Tea Time, Time for Tea! Fun for You, Fun for Me! Tea Time, Time for Tea!"

After he left Janus got off of Alexei and said "I may not have as much sense as you, but would you like me to attempt to explain what Chronos was saying?"

Alexei nodded. "At least with you I can understand what you're saying."

Janus took a moment, thinking over what it was she was to explain. It was her special way of trying to control her insanity a bit. She said and "Your parents were not who they seemed," Janus fished out a scroll from her hat and showed it to Alexei and Kosuke "This is the Family-Tree of The Hatters. Do you see your father's name there?"

Alexei shrugged at Kosuke and glanced obligingly at the scroll. "His first name, sure, but our surname is Belikov.

Again Janus went to her hat. She brought out a military personnel file, took out a photo, and showed it to Alexei, asking "Is this him?"

Alexei stared from the picture to Janus and back again. "Ok, where did you get that? Will someone please just explain things without all this run-around and guessing games?"

Janus thought carefully and said "Some of the inhabitants of Wonderland found a portal to The Waking World, your world, during the beginning of the war and stayed there to keep The Gate closed. They made homes and families, but their roots are here. If you want a better explanation then might I suggest asking a question?"

Alexei gaped. "So you're saying my father came from this psycho world?!" He jerked a thumb at Kosuke. "What about her?"

(Since Kosuke's apparently just standing there watching them...)

Kosuke put her hands up and said "I don't wanna know. That's why I haven't asked" Janus chuckled and replied "why, she is Chronos' niece"

Kosuke's jaw dropped. She just... no. There is no response to that. Just, no way!

Alexei tried - and failed - to smother a laugh. "You're related to that nutcase? Nice."

Kosuke punched Alexai in the arm and said "Shut up!" Janus laughed and added "Chronos was also the sane one of his siblings" Kosuke rubbed her eyes and said "you're not helping"

Alexei stopped even trying to hide his laughter, but he stopped soon enough and turned to Janus. "So because our fathers are from here we were pulled into this messed up world we didn't even know existed, to fight a war we have no skills for, with some unknown power we might possibly have?"

Janus sighed and said "I wish we could explain more, but almost all scriptures were lost to The Twisted Heart... We even lost all records of Alice and her descendants"

Alexei sighed. "Fine, whatever. What do we do now?"

Janus gave the duo swords and said "Now we train. Wonderland style" Minka walked in and chuckled "already? They don't even have the basics" Janus was already leaving as she replied "they're all yours Minka"

Minka growled and yelled "why do I have to do it?!" She groaned as the doors closed. She pointed at a random soldier and said "You! Bring Moth-Girl!"

Farzana entered quietly, already armed. She removed her cloak so it wouldn't get in the way, revealing the wings that protruded through holes in her clothing. "Hello again." She held the sword lightly, as if reluctant to touch it, but she joined them and nodded at Minka. "I am ready."
