Dragons in our Midst

Eric got in, looked over and yelled "Keep your head low!"

Draco and another one of the slayers pulled out crossbows and shot at Derek.

Derek ducked to dodge the arrows. One skidded his shoulder, but hadn't done much damage, then sprinted to the car. He opened the back door and yelled "GO!!!" as he jumped in.

Aurora hit the gas pedal before her father closed the door, and they were off. "Dad, where are we supposed to go?" Aurora yelled.

"Head north. Just drive north. We'll stop later on to grab some food and help Eric. Speaking of which..." He looked at Eric. "How you holding up?"

Eric winced and replied "I'll live... b-but my shoulders" he inhaled sharply "it feels like they're being torn apart"

((Are his wings gonna pop out soon? O-o XD))

"Alright dad, what's going on? Why were those guys trying to kill us??"

Derek sighed. "They're... dragon slayers."

"What are dragon slayers?"

"Slayers, like killers... I was going to tell you later, but well, I didn't anticipate this coming."

"WHAT??!!!?!" She almost hit the gas pedal to the floor, but stiffened her leg before doing so. "So wait, there are people who wants us dead?! WHY?!!"

"Because we're dragons. Well I am anyway. You're a half-dragon, but since they think evil is genetic-"

"You're evil?!"

"NO! They think we are evil! Sheesh, don't go thinking your father is evil."

((Yea, they're kinda ignoring the fact that Eric is still there and confused like crazy XD))

((Guess what!))

Suddenly, Eric screamed in pain as dark green wings burst from his back.

"HOLY-" The car swerved off the road. Aurora had gained control and got the car to stop. She looked at Eric. "What the hell?!"

"Crap," Derek said from the back. "I didn't think they would come out now."

"WHAT DO WE DO?!"

"Well, we got a bot far off the road, and it's getting dark, so we should let Eric out for a bit."

Aurora nodded and unlocked the car. "Are you ok Eric?!"

Eric winced and replied through gritted teeth "No. I'm not ok. Thanks for asking anyway" He tried to smile for Aurora, why he didn't know, but he was in too much pain at the moment.

"We just need to stay on Eric's side of the car to not be noticed. I'll grab the first aid kit." Derek said.

Aurora got out and jogged around the car to see Eric. "Oh jeez, there's blood."

"Let him stretch his wings out as far as he can. He needs to stretch them out."

Eric shifted so he could stretch his wings comfortably without attracting attention. He cursed "what the hell is this?"

((I'm headed off. Night ;D))

Derek took a deep breath as he opened the first aid kit. "Well Eric, I guess your parents never told you. The thing is... geez, I already went through this with Aurora, and it's still hard. OK, basically, you're-"

"A half-dragon..." Aurora finished. "Holy crap! You're a half dragon?! Oh crap, you're like me!"

"What she means is... Yea, you're a... dragon child I guess I could say. You're the son of a dragon. Yes, I know, it sounds crazy, but I'll explain later on. Right now, let's get you fixed up and hit the road."

"Dad!! How are you so calm? WHy are you saying this so calmly?!"

"I've been through this kind of stuff before. Just... not with a child. Also, I can't hesitate. It was better to just say it."

Eric shuddered and said "o-ok... so I'm... I'm a..." A dark haired man approached the vehicle and said "Dragon born" He went beside Aurora and continued "Hey Mr. Robin"

((It's Yuan))

Aurora jumped when she heard his voice. Derek casually looked up and smiled. "Oh, Yuan. Of all times, this has to be the perfect one!"

She whipped her head around. "...Yuan?"

"He's a friend. We just pass by each other once in a while. Perfect time to pass by now!"

Yuan chuckled and said "perfect time to scare someone?" He turned to the young woman and continued "sorry by the way"

"It's... it's ok. I was just surprised, that's all." She looked back at Eric. "Hey dad, we need to help Eric. There's a lot of blood."

"Yes we will. Yuan, how far is the safe house from here?"

"Safe house?"

Yuan helped Eric out of the car and said "it's a little far, but we better walk. Slayers have been watching the roads"

"Alright, let's move." Derek went to the backseat to grab the book, box, and first aid kit.

"Wait, we're gonna leave the car here?!"

"Don't worry, it'll be fine."

Aurora shook her head and glanced at Eric. "Do you think you'll make the walk?"

Eric winced and replied in a low voice so only Aurora could hear him "this isn't the worst thing my folks have done to me"

Yuan looked up and sighed "we better hurry, it'll start raining soon"

Aurora tried to keep her face cool, but she was thinking What? I have to ask him more later...

Derek nodded. Aurora grabbed the first aid kit. "I've got it dad."

Derek said , "Thanks," then turned to Yuan. "Lead on!"

The rain fell heavily as they walked through the forest. Eric used a wing to shelter Aurora, though he didn't look over at her.

Aurora glanced up to notice Eric's wing above, keeping her dry. She glanced at him, but couldn't catch his eye. She looked away and felt her cheeks tingle. She didn't want anyone seeing her blush.

((I loved that scene!! I bet it'll happen again later on lol))

Eric explained "you'll catch cold"

She looked back at Eric, but he still kept his gaze away. "What about you? You're the one who's injured, and just grew wings! In all fairness, I should be trying to keep you from a cold."

Eric looked over at Aurora and said "I've been in worse shape"

Aurora wanted to ask more, but decided to try later. He may not explain right now. She looked back on earlier today and yesterday. She finds out she's a dragon child, has a random guy, who she finds later to also be a dragon child, drawing her doing something she did yesterday in perfect detail, and now being chased down by some slayers. She shivered, but not from the cold.

Derek glanced back and notice Eric lifting a wing over Aurora, keeping her covered from the rain. Derek was surprised, thinking a guy like Eric wouldn't be like a gentleman. Huh, literally can't judge a book by it's cover.

((I'm just writing random stuff. Maybe Derek will give Eric his approval later on XD Also, are we there yet? XD))

Yuan pointed ahead and said "we're almost there. Just need to pass those trees."
